Retyre provides its members with a complete service for the management of End-of-Life Tyres and the fulfilment of all related related obligations.

The regulations

The End-of-Life Tyres (ELTs) regime is regulated at national level by the Ministerial Decree of 19 November 2019, number 182, called “Regulation for the management of end-of-life tyres End-of-Life Tyres (ELTs), pursuant to Article 228 of Legislative Decree 3 April 2006 no.152 and subsequent amendments and supplements, bearing provisions on environmental matters”.

The objective

The main objective is to regulate the management of such waste, enhancing the environmental impact of activities carried out by various stakeholders in the lifecycle, including manufacturers, importers, garages, tyre dealers, and vehicle dismantlers.

ELT Management

Once its function is fulfilled, the tyre becomes a special waste non-hazardous special waste, classified as ELTs with EWC code 160103 according to Directive 75/442/EEC. This category of waste cannot be disposed of in landfills, but must be subject to recycling, in accordance with European Union directives with a view to a circular economy circular economy.

Obligations

Article 228 of Legislative Decree number 152 of 3 April 2006 requires producers and importers to manage quantities of ELTs equivalent to those placed on the national market, calculated in relation to the previous year, introducing the principle of “Extended Producer Responsibility”.
